Commission Terms

Last updated: 25 September 2026

Thank you for considering a commissioned artwork by Jonna Freya.

Each commission is created specifically for you, based on your ideas, preferences and reference material. These Commission Terms explain how the commission process works, what you can expect from me, and what I expect from you.

They apply to commissioned artworks ordered through jonnafreya.com or agreed directly with Jonna Freya.

1. The commission process

The commission process generally follows these steps:

Step 1: Your request

You can contact me through the commission form or by email at info@jonnafreya.com.

Please provide as much information as possible about what you have in mind, including, where relevant:

  • the subject or idea

  • preferred size

  • preferred materials

  • colour preferences

  • timeframe

  • your budget

  • reference photographs or other visual references

A commission request is not automatically an accepted order.

Step 2: Discussing your artwork

I will review your request and discuss the possibilities with you.

Depending on the project, I may ask additional questions or request further reference material before I can provide a quote.

I will only accept a commission if I believe the requested artwork is suitable for my artistic practice and can be completed within the agreed timeframe.

Step 3: Quote

Once we have discussed the commission, I will provide you with a quote.

The quote will normally specify:

  • the artwork size

  • the materials

  • the agreed price

  • the expected timeframe

  • the payment schedule

  • any relevant shipping costs

  • any other specific agreements relating to the commission

A commission is confirmed once the quote has been accepted and the required deposit has been received.

2. Payment

Unless otherwise agreed, commissioned artwork is paid in two instalments:

  • 50% deposit before I start the artwork

  • 50% remaining balance before the artwork is shipped

I will not begin work until the deposit has been received.

The final artwork will not be shipped until the remaining balance has been paid.

All prices communicated to consumers include applicable VAT unless explicitly stated otherwise.

3. Starting the artwork

Once the deposit has been received and the commission has been confirmed, I will begin creating the artwork.

Because each commission is individually created, the final artwork may not be an exact visual reproduction of the reference photographs or initial concept.

My work is interpretive and artistic. Differences in colour, brushwork, composition, expression or other artistic details may therefore occur.

By commissioning an artwork, you acknowledge and accept that the finished piece will reflect my artistic style and creative interpretation.

4. Reference photographs and materials

You may provide photographs, sketches or other visual references to help communicate your wishes.

You are responsible for ensuring that you have the right to provide any photographs or other reference material to me for the purpose of creating the commissioned artwork.

If you provide photographs of other people, you should have the appropriate permission to use those photographs for the commission.

I may use the provided reference material solely for the purpose of creating the commissioned artwork, unless we agree otherwise.

5. Revisions

Where appropriate, I will provide an opportunity for one round of minor adjustments before the artwork is considered final.

Minor adjustments may include small changes to details such as colour, positioning or similar elements that can reasonably be changed without substantially altering the artwork.

Major changes, a substantially different concept, or a request to restart the artwork may require an additional fee and/or a revised timeframe.

Any additional work will be discussed with you before I proceed.

Because the artwork is created in my own artistic style, requests that would fundamentally change the nature or style of the painting may not be possible.

6. Artistic interpretation

A commission is a collaboration between your ideas and my artistic interpretation.

The final artwork may therefore differ from your reference material or initial description in ways that are part of the creative process.

I do not guarantee an exact reproduction of a photograph, digital image or previously created artwork unless this has been explicitly agreed and is artistically and legally possible.

The finished artwork remains an original work created in the Jonna Freya style.

7. Cancellation by the customer

If you wish to cancel a commission before I have started working on it, please contact me as soon as possible.

If work has already started, cancellation may result in the deposit being retained, in whole or in part, to the extent permitted by applicable law and depending on the work already performed and costs incurred.

If the applicable law gives you a mandatory right to cancel or receive a refund, these rights will always take precedence.

If a commission is cancelled and a refund is due, I will confirm the amount and refund method with you.

8. Cancellation by Jonna Freya

In exceptional circumstances, I may need to cancel a commission, for example if I become unable to complete the work or if circumstances arise that make completion unreasonable or impossible.

If I cancel a commission before completion, I will refund any amount you have paid for work that has not been completed, subject to applicable law.

9. Changes to the commission

Once the commission has been confirmed, significant changes to the agreed concept, size, materials or other specifications may affect the price and completion time.

If you request a significant change, I will discuss the consequences with you before carrying out the additional work.

A change is not considered agreed until both parties have confirmed the updated terms.

10. Completion and final payment

Once the artwork is finished, I may provide photographs or a preview of the completed work.

The remaining 50% balance is due before the artwork is shipped.

Once the final payment has been received and any agreed final adjustments have been completed, the artwork will be prepared for delivery.

11. Delivery

Commissioned artwork is shipped according to the arrangements agreed when the commission is confirmed.

Unless otherwise agreed, shipping costs are separate from the commission price.

For higher-value artwork, I may use tracked, registered and/or insured shipping where appropriate.

Please see the Shipping Policy for general information about packaging and delivery.

12. Returns and the right of withdrawal

Because commissioned artwork is created specifically according to an individual's specifications, the statutory right of withdrawal may not apply where the legal exception for clearly personalised or made-to-order goods applies.

Whether this exception applies depends on the specific circumstances of the commission.

Nothing in these Commission Terms limits any mandatory consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.

For standard originals and prints purchased through the webshop, please see the separate Returns & Refund Policy.

13. Copyright and ownership

The physical artwork becomes your property once it has been fully paid for and delivered to you.

Copyright and other intellectual property rights remain with Jonna Freya unless explicitly agreed otherwise in writing.

Purchasing a commissioned artwork does not transfer the copyright in the artwork to you.

This means that, unless separately agreed, you may not reproduce the artwork commercially, create merchandise from it, sell reproductions, license the image, or otherwise commercially exploit the artwork.

You may of course display the original artwork in your home or other personal space.

You may also share photographs of the artwork for personal, non-commercial purposes, provided that this does not involve reproducing or commercially exploiting the artwork.

14. Portfolio and social media use

Because commissioned artwork is part of my artistic portfolio, I may wish to photograph and share completed commissions on my website, social media or other portfolio channels.

I will only use a commissioned artwork for portfolio, website or social media purposes with your permission.

Where appropriate, I will ask for this permission separately during the commission process.

You can choose whether or not to give permission, and refusing permission will not affect the creation or delivery of your commission.

15. Photographing and documenting the artwork

I may photograph or otherwise document the commissioned artwork for my own administrative and archival records.

This documentation is used to keep a record of the artwork and does not transfer any rights in the artwork to you.

16. Reference to the customer

I will not publicly share your personal details, private correspondence or personal reference photographs without your permission.

If you give permission for me to share the commissioned artwork publicly, I may identify you by name only if you have separately agreed to this.

17. Colour and screen differences

Colours can appear differently depending on lighting, screens and photography.

For this reason, the colours visible in digital previews or photographs may not be exactly identical to the physical artwork.

Minor differences between a digital preview and the finished physical artwork are therefore not necessarily considered a defect.

18. Unclaimed or refused deliveries

If a commissioned artwork is returned to me because a delivery was refused, an incorrect address was provided, or the package could not be delivered for reasons attributable to the customer, I will contact you to arrange the next step.

Any additional shipping costs may be charged to you where permitted by law.

19. Agreement to these terms

By accepting a commission quote and paying the required deposit, you confirm that you have read and understood these Commission Terms and agree to the arrangements described in the confirmed commission quote.

If the quote contains specific terms that differ from these general Commission Terms, the specific terms agreed for that commission will apply.

Nothing in these terms limits mandatory rights you have under applicable consumer law.
